Uncle and Auntie。So, can you try to describe them by using the words and expressions we learned last time? Here we go. This is my version.

The big beef Mr. Dursley who hardly had any neck and the thin blond Mrs. Dursley who had nearly twice the usual amount of neck can hardly hold with the mysterious things like magic. Though they lead a peaceful life right now, they shuddered to think what would happen to them if the secrets about Potters were exposed.

When Mr and Mrs Dursley woke up on the dull, grey Tuesday our story starts, there was nothing about the cloudy sky outside to suggest that strange and mysterious things would soon be happening all over the country.

Why Tuesday?

It’s a perfect atmosphere for strange and mysterious things! 但是德思礼夫妇此刻had smallest idea about what gonna happen!

Mr Dursley hummed as he picked out his most boring tie for work and Mrs Dursley gossiped away happily as she wrestled a screaming Dudley into his high chair. None of them noticed a large tawny owl flutter past the window.

Dursley已经不够用抱抱亲亲举高高来解决了,必须wrestle him into his high chair.

We’ve been wrestling with these problems for a long time.

It was on the corner of the street that he noticed the first sign of something peculiar – a cat reading a map. Mr Dursley gave himself a little shake and put the cat out of his mind.

But on the edge of town, drills were driven out of his mind by something else.As he sat in the usual morning traffic jam, he couldn’t help noticing that there seemed to be a lot of strangely dressed people about. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel and his eyes fell on a huddle of these weirdos standing quite close by. They were whispering excitedly together.

on the edge of town,字面为“在城市的边上”,其实就是快进城的时候。 为了体现出这种“被动”,罗琳特意用了“被动语态”drills were driven out of his mind,钻机生生被挤出脑海。 原本他只是堵车了sit in the morning traffic jam,这里描写很写实。

Dursley眼中,这是a huddle of weirdos一群奇葩,一堆怪咖。

They were whispering excitedly together. 又说these people were obviously collecting for something ...

Mr Dursley always sat with his back to the window in his office on the ninth floor. If he hadn’t, he might have found it harder to concentrate on drills that morning. He didn’t see the owls swooping past in broad daylight, though people down in the street did; they pointed and gazed open-mouthed as owl after owl sped overhead.

He yelled at five different people. He made several important telephone calls and shouted a bit more. He was in a very good mood until lunch-time, when he thought he’d stretch his legs and walk across the road to buy himself a bun from the baker’s opposite.

然后make several important telephone calls打电话就这么说奥,口语可以直接说call sb.,书面表达就用这个词组make phone calls.

打完了又shout a bit more喊得更响了!但是接下来罗琳却说he was in a very good mood,他心情很好!Be in a good mood心情好,be in a bad mood心情坏。

Always stretch before exercising.

See you!
