"A Tale of the White Snake" is one of the four traditional Chinese love legends. It tells the story of the two snake spirits. Bai Suzhen and her sister Little Green, who had meditated in Emei Mountain for a thousand years and had transformed into young beautiful ladies. One day, they met Xu Xian when they were sight-seeing along the West Lake. Bai Suzhen fell in love with Xu Xian at first sight and married him. The couple set up a herbal medicine shop Bao He Tang to cure people of their illness. Fahai, a monk from the Jinshan Temple, recognized Bai Suzhen's true form of snake and tried every means to separate Xu Xian from his demon wife. Taking in Fa Hai's words, Xu Xian urged Bai Suzhen to drink some realgar wine on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival and thus Bai Suzhen's true form was exposed. Xu Xian fell to a dead faint. In order to save Xu Xian, Bai Suzhen ventured to the Kunlun Mountains to steal the divine medicine of ganoderma. After going through numerous difficulties and dangers, Bai Suzhen manages to get the ganoderma and brought Xu Xian back to life. But unexpectedly, Xu Xian was imprisoned by Fahai into the Jinshan Temple. To save her husband again, Bai Suzhen fought a battle of wits and courage with Fahai and even caused a flood over the Jinshan Temple... Though in the end Bai Suzhen was imprisoned by Fahai in his gold bowl and held to captivity under the Leifeng Pagoda, the sincere love between the couple was immortal and their story was passed down from one generation to another.
